Nathan will be hoping to gain his first GB cap ahead of moving to Sheffield to be part of the full time GB training squad. He is joined in the squad by ex-Docklands players Andrew Pink and Danny Weemes.

Update 02/08/08 - Nathan has also been selected in the England Junior squad that will travel to Iceland in September for the NEVZA tournament.

Marathon Man 2 - Vincett to tackle 26 miles again

28/07/08 - Following his appearance back in a Docklands shirt at the Whitefield tournament, Andy Vincett has put his kneepads aside again and pulled on his running shoes to start training for his second New York marathon in November. He said, "They say that if you can make it to the start line of a marathon then you'll make it to the finish....To get there I need to avoid injury, pound out the training miles and, of course, email everyone I've ever met to see if they might like to sponsor me!". This time he is running for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (New York City Chapter) and has set himself the daunting task of raising $7,500. "Well, I figure there's no point aiming low when it comes to the marathon!" he commented.

Glitz falls at the final hurdle again!

27/07/08 - Docklands legend Albrecht Glitz and his beach partner Steve Fee reached the Weymouth Classic Beach final for the second year in a row today. Unfortunately they were beaten by Morph Bowes again in a tense final. This year Morph was partnered by GB Beach coach Matt Grinlaubs, who represented Australia in the 2000 Olympics. Glitz and Fee came back from a set down to take the match into a deciding third set. They fought back to 12-12 but eventually went down 15-13. Click here for more photos.

At least Albrecht is able to look foward to a holiday this week when he will join up with Andy Vincett and Martin Blake in the Far East. More updates on this to follow...

Docklands relinquish their Whitefield title

21/07/08 - Docklands five year reign as Whitefield champions came to an end at the weekend following defeat to Malory in the semi final. Docklands first won the tournament in 2003 and successfully defended their title three times. After last year's event was cancelled Docklands were hoping to defend the title they won back in 2006. With only a small squad available the team did well to reach the semis and put up a brave fight against the eventual winners. Docklands welcomed back Andy Vincett and Albrecht Glitz whilst guest Antonio Codrington provided some heavy handed hitting. Docklands started slowly, losing their first match against a combined ULU and Reading team that featured Docklands old boy Nik Ruh.

They recovered with a scrappy win against Wessex before upping their game a few levels to defeat Warwick Riga 2-0. This set up the semi final on Sunday morning against old rivals Malory who used all their experience to defeat a battling Docklands side. Docklands eventually finished 4th after a thrilling 3rd/4th place play off match which saw ULU/Reading win 17-16 in a capped deciding 3rd set.

Meanwhile in the women's tournament, Danny Primus' Swiss Cottage side also lost their Whitefield title, going down 3-1 in the final against a combined Malory and Team Bath team (Balory).

Docklands and Swiss celebrate first season together

18/05/08 - Docklands and Swiss Cottage celebrated their first season together last night in another joint event. With Danny Primus being the integral link between the two clubs, the collaboration has been hailed as a great success. Danny coached Swiss to fourth place in women's division 1, making them the best ladies team in London, a remarkable achievement given the club were playing in division 3 only two years ago. Docklands failed to match their double winning season but have started to rebuild for the future and are looking toward next season already.

The celebrations took place at Bar Kick and the guys took full advantage of the table football facilities. Departing Docklands star Francesco Riginelli was the undoubted expert which comes as no surprise when you learn that they have a table in his office. The night also saw the return of one of Docklands' veterans, Martin Blake. He is briefly back in the country, taking a break from his world tour and popped in to say hello. The night was also Irene Croceri's leaving do before she heads off to Ireland this week. Irene has been one of Swiss' mainstays during their rise through the divisions and will be sorely missed by her team.
York runs for Whizz-kidz

11/05/08 - Julie York ran in the Doitforcharity.com 5K run at Regents Park today raising over £400 for Whizz-kidz. She said, "The day went pretty well and I was delighted to make it round the course, although I snuck in a couple of brief walks here and there to stop myself from spontaneously combusting, it was roasting hot! Even so, I made it round in just under 40 minutes and without any major catastrophe. It was a marvellous event and really well managed. I have a special thank you to Arwa'a and the children, who waved me on at crucial points of the course and even joined it with me at the end. I couldn't have done it without them". She has already started planning her next "race", another 5k and next time plans to run the whole thing in 30 minutes. Well done Julie and good luck!

Sheffield clinch Docklands' cup crown

26/04/08 - Sheffield denied Malory their 14th league and cup double with a 3-1 victory in the cup final today. After missing out on the league title, Keith Trenam's side secured Sheffield's first cup win in their second final appearance. In the first final held at Bath University the set scores were 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18. Sheffield now join Docklands as the only other team to defeat Malory in a men's cup final. Click here to see the history of the cup.

Meanwhile, ULU won the women's cup after a thrilling 3-2 win over Polonia. ULU's win ensured that they stretched London's record of supplying at least one of the men's or women's cup winners every year since 1987.

Glitz on the run

16/03/08 - Since leaving Docklands at the end of last season it seems that things have gone downhill for Albrecht Glitz. News reaches us from Spain of an extraordinary incident that has seen Al flee his new home in Barcelona. He is said to be back in the UK, possibly in Warwick. Details are sketchy but suffice to say you should not approach this man if you see him. More details can be seen by clicking on the wanted poster (right). Why they have used his Docklands' player profile is unknown.

French guides Boswells to National Finals

09/03/08 - Docklands' Nathan French helped his school team Boswells to their second successive under 18 men's final. They beat Ashcombe in the semi final at Keele University and will face the same opponents as last year Wessex. Nathan will be hoping to help reverse the result from last season which saw Wessex win in five sets. The final is at Bath on April 27th.

Swiss fall at final hurdle

08/03/08 - Swiss Cottage just failed to make the final of the Women's KO Cup after a dramatic five set battle with London Polonia. Danny Primus' team came back from 1-0 and 2-1 down to take the match into a deciding 5th set but couldn't convert a 13-11 lead. Ex-Docklands player Donald Deans guided Swiss' west London rivals to their first cup final where they will face another London team ULU who defeated Wessex-Team Bath 3-1 in the other semi final.

Polonia were hoping to make it a cup final double with their men's team taking on a depleted Malory side in the men's semi finals. It looked as though Polonia would reach their first final since 1992 when Malory's Steve Fee twisted his ankle in the 3rd set forcing coach Jefferson Williams to bring himself on. But Polonia let their 2-1 lead slip as Williams guided his side through to their 7th cup final in a row - it is ten years this month that Polonia last beat Malory and Kryz Hykiel's team will probably not have a better opportunity. Malory will face Sheffield 1 in the final who eased past Sheffield 2 in the other semi. Both Malory and Sheffield are still able to emulate Docklands' double of last season but on current form it looks as though both the league and cup titles will be going outside London for the first time since 1983 when Speedwell did the double. This year's finals are in Bath on April 26th.

Primus' passion

14/02/08 - Danny Primus fame is growing after he and his Swiss Cottage team were featured for the second time on the website of Lube Volley. Currently 4th in the Italian league, Lube's press office were looking for a story so Danny sent them a photo of his team all wearing some Lube/Italian kit. The article drew on Swiss reaching the cup semi finals and hoped that their success would rub off on Lube as they enter the key part of their season. You can see the full article here and read a translation provided by Angie Bonci.

Vincett on ice

04/02/08 - Andy Vincett recently took time out from his busy schedule to take his tentative first steps on skis. Click here to see video evidence. In Andy's words, "I’m actually quite good I think, although you’ve no idea how many takes this took! You should listen with sound – I think you may even hear the word ‘awesome’ escape from my lips while my guard was down!". The other voice you can hear is Andy's girlfriend Eileen. Enjoy!

Swiss make the semis

02/02/08 - After beating the current holders Loughborough in the previous round Swiss Cottage made the KO Cup semi finals for the second year in a row with a 3-0 win over Division 3 side Middlesbrough College. Undaunted by the long journey north and an 11am start, Danny Primus' team demolished a confident Middlesbrough side who had defeated opposition from higher divisions in their two previous cup matches.

Swiss will now face Polonia who like Swiss were defeated in last year's semi finals. If they make the final Swiss will face Wessex-Team Bath or ULU. The latter beat last year's beaten finalists Malory.

Meanwhile, Malory men beat London Lynx 1 in four sets and will face Polonia. The other men's semi will be an all Sheffield affair after Sheffield 1 beat Warwick Riga while Sheffield 2 defeated Docklands' conquerors Reading.

Glitzy success continues

08/01/08 - Docklands legend Albrecht Glitz has continued his winning streak with his new team in Barcelona. They are called Club Voleibol Mundet and play in the 3rd national division which Al says is on average slightly stronger than NVL 1. Before Christmas they played in a league of six teams home and away in the Barcelona area and finished top on points after losing just two matches. The top three of this group are now put together with the top three from the south to form a new league. They then have another 10 games, starting next weekend with an away game in Alicante. The top two teams will then go to the final with two other teams from another league.
